  On Oct. 19, 2022, the Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences treated its health sciences preceptors to an evening at the Outdoor Adventure Center in Detroit. Preceptors teach our students in clinical settings, providing invaluable hands-on training and experience.
• Dr. Sara F. Maher appointed as permanent associate dean for health sciences

  Dr. Maher had served as interim associate dean for health sciences since January 2022, assuming oversight of nine clinical programs, which include Clinical Laboratory Science, Mortuary Science, Pathologists’ Assistant, Nurse Anesthesia, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Radiation Therapy Technology and Radiologic Technology. During this time, she has also stepped up to lead the Office of Student Affairs on an interim basis.
• Nurse Anesthesia alum's story about drug vial cap art appears in latest Wayne State magazine

  Nurse anesthetist Donna Dzialo took a closer look at the colorful drug vial caps she’d been throwing away at work and began saving them instead. She pieced together more than 6,000 caps of nearly 400 different colors, sizes, shapes and textures, using IV tubing and needle covers along with the caps to create “COVID Time CAPSule,” which earned a coveted spot in the annual ArtPrize event last fall.

  “While displaying this piece at ArtPrize for 21 days, I found that people were really attracted to it,” Dzialo said, “Especially those who had gotten infected or lost a loved one to COVID, and of course all of those with medical backgrounds.”

  On Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences hosted its 18th annual College Research Day live on Zoom. Dr. Arthur Kim of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital delivered the keynote lecture, "Hepatitis C Virus: From Evolution to Revolution," and participated in a Q&A session ahead of the research awards presentation.

• Wayne State University joins URC partners in mandating vaccination for all students, faculty and staff coming to campus

  "As we have from the beginning of the pandemic, we are today revising our campus response to respond to emerging evidence and local data. To best protect the health and safety of our campus community, Wayne State will require all students, faculty and staff who plan to be on campus during the fall semester to receive their COVID-19 vaccination. Proof of your vaccination must be submitted by Aug. 30 for you to be allowed on campus," said WSU President M. Roy Wilson.
• Masks are required inside WSU buildings now through Sept. 15 for everyone, regardless of vaccination status

  "Full vaccination of our campus community will eventually eliminate the need for masks and allow a renewed sense of normalcy in our interactions. Beginning today through Sept. 15, however, when we can be more confident in our overall vaccination status, masks will be required indoors for everyone, regardless of vaccination status," said WSU President M. Roy Wilson. "At that point, we will revisit the mask requirement, and hopefully eliminate it. Of course, masks will not be required if you are working alone in your office. We recognize that this is inconvenient, but it is temporary, and more important, safe."
