PharmD student Christopher Miller honored by Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists
Wayne State University PharmD student Christopher Miller was recognized this week with a Trainee Award from the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists.
Miller, a class of 2021 member of the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Doctor of Pharmacy program, has conducted independent research for the past three years with Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice Andrew Berti, studying mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
“Chris is one of the rare students who not only learns quickly but also asks insightful questions,” said Berti. “It is a pleasure to brainstorm a research question and see a student independently conceive of, implement and interpret the results of his or her own well-designed experiment.”
The SIDP Trainee Award is a competitive, prestigious recognition of a pharmacy resident or student with exceptional promise in infectious diseases pharmacy. The honor comes with a monetary award to support presentation at the group's annual meeting, taking place virtually this year on Oct. 21-25. Miller is scheduled to present two posters based on his research involving SARS-CoV2 and MRSA therapies.
“This award means a great deal to me,” Miller said. “As I strive toward a future career as an infectious diseases pharmacist, the opportunity to attend IDWeek 2020 and learn from world experts is invaluable. I’m very grateful to SIDP for the award, and I’m excited to attend this year’s conference!”
