Diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusiveness

Assess, promote and ensure diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusiveness in leadership, faculty, staff, postdoctoral trainees, and students

  • Objective 10a:  Invest in programs designed to increase the number of applications of students from underserved (and/or underrepresented) populations.
  • Objective 10b:  Establish faculty and staff support groups that create a culture of acceptance, understanding and  inclusiveness.
  • Objective 10c:  Review admissions practices of all programs to ensure accessibility and equitable approaches in admission criteria.
  • Objective 10d:  Create additional scholarships that support students from underserved (and/or underrepresented) communities.

Hold ourselves accountable by regularly monitoring, assessing, and enhancing our progress to achieve a diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive college

  • Objective 11a:  Create survey instruments for assessment of DEAI progress focused on students, staff, and faculty.
  • Objective 11b:  Establish annual forums and reports focusing on the DEAI state of the College.
  • Objective 11c:  Coordinate reporting and monitoring results with University DEI office for review.
  • Objective 11d:  Create educational and training programs to enhance personal and programmatic growth in DEAI.

Create and implement advancements in infrastructure, policies, and procedures to address systemic inequities

  • Objective 12a: Annually review faculty salaries to identify inequities.
  • Objective 12b:  Annually review staff salaries to identify inequities.
  • Objective 12c: Conduct annual space allocation survey to ensure that research/scholarship space is equitably distributed based on grant funding, merit, research personnel and research needs.
  • Objective 12d: Annually assess faculty workload to ensure equitable distribution of course and credit hour loads, as well as committee service, based on departmental policy, research activity, rank, gender, ethnicity, and race.
  • Objective 12e: Annually assess staff workload to ensure equitable distribution of labor based on departmental size and assigned duties.

Include DEAI training in the curricular content of all programs to develop a culture of understanding, compassion, advocacy and service

  • Objective 13a: Increase college-wide workshops and seminars on DEAI to educate administrative leaders, faculty, staff, trainees and students.
  • Objective 13b:  Promote regular discussions on DEAI related issues within and across all programs in the College.
  • Objective 13c:  Ensure that course content is periodically revised to update research that address global health disparities.
  • Objective 13d: Increase the number of, and ensure accessibility to    programmatic learning experiences for students focused on DEAI.
