For faculty, by faculty: Dr. MaryAnne Stewart creates an online resource hub

MaryAnne StewartLast year, WSU Applebaum Assistant Clinical Professor of Clinical Laboratory Science MaryAnne Stewart researched and designed a faculty resources page for the Office of the Provost website as part of a leadership project during her 2020-21 Academic Leadership Academy fellowship.

“I wanted to create an inclusive, one-stop resource,” Stewart said. “Identifying expectations for teaching, research, service and promotion will help support and prepare new faculty members. It will also allow them to fully acclimate to their environment successfully.”

The effort was featured in the Welcome to the Semester newsletter sent by Assistant Provost of Faculty Development and Faculty Success Sara E. Kacin, who wrote, "Be sure to check it out and thank MaryAnne if you see her around campus."

The Academic Leadership Academy is a one-year program designed for full-time faculty and academic staff who have some knowledge and experience working toward the mission of WSU and in their areas of expertise, and are prepared to build their capacity to be more effective leaders at WSU, in their disciplines, departments, schools/colleges/units, or communities, in either formal and informal leadership roles.

Program participants, known as ALA Fellows, build on their emerging leadership skills by applying what they learn during the Academy to their current roles as well as to a leadership project of their choice.
