WSU's Science Policy Network Detroit brings together scientific community, policymakers, citizens
Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences faculty and students in all disciplines are invited to join Wayne State's Science Policy Network Detroit (SciPol-Detroit) to learn about policy advocacy and awareness, and opportunities for engaging your local community.
As an organization, SciPol-Detroit aims to bridge the gap between professionals, scientists, lawmakers, students and the community. It is led by faculty advisor Dr. Hilary Marusak, head of graduate students Breanna Borg, and co-presidents
Saurav Singh and Shreya Desai. SciPol-Detroit is a branch of the National Science Policy Network.
This semester, the group is focusing on addressing several health disparities in Detroit communities, such as lead exposure, air pollution, water injustices and community violence exposure. As an event attendee, you will gain the tools and skills that will equip you to communicate your issue more effectively, recruit more support and create a larger influence in the local community.
This semester's events provide the opportunity for members to meet directly with lawmakers. The first meeting of the year is Thursday, Jan. 28, from 1-2 p.m. with guest speaker Elizabeth Kutter, WSU's director of state relations.
