James McLean
James McLean '23 received a WSU Applebaum Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship in 2021. In a recent first-person article, the Cass Tech High School grad shared challenges he's faced as a Black student in professional health education through a letter he wrote to colleagues at his workplace, a professional health care setting, as the Black Lives Matter movement (and criticism toward it) surged.

"Diversity and inclusion is one of our top priorities at WSU Applebaum," said Dean Brian Cummings. "We are constantly focused on what we can do to truly advance diversity and inclusion in professional health education, which we anticipate will ultimately lead to a reduction in health disparities here in Detroit and every community where our alumni serve. We are excited to present these scholarships to students who are also actively working toward those goals."
