WSU Applebaum professors to present their scholarship of teaching and learning in Wayne State OTL series

Six WSU Applebaum professors are sharing their scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) as guest speakers in a series hosted by Wayne State University's Office of Teaching and Learning. 

Speakers will informally present their work in 15-25 minute virtual talks followed by short Q&A sessions. Virtual, team-based learning

11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11 Aline SaadWanqing Liu and Vanessa Millisor

Dr. Aline Saad is an associate clinical professor of pharmacy practice in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Her scholarship has been published in BMC Medical Education and the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. Dr. Wanqing Liu is an associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He is also the director of the Pharmacogenomics Resource Center. Dr. Vanessa Millisor is an affiliated instructor with the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She is also the clinical pharmacy specialist at Henry Ford Health Systems. They will be presenting their collaborative work on virtual team-based learning in the third-year oncology/hematology courses.

Comparing virtual and face-to-face exams

11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25 Brittany Stewart and Justine Gortney

Dr. Brittany Stewart and Dr. Justine Gortney of the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will be presenting data comparing the virtual and in-person performances of objective structured clinical exams in third-year clinical capstone courses in pharmacy practice. Dr. Gortney is an associate clinical professor of pharmacy practice and director of assessment; her scholarship for teaching and learning has been published in Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning and American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. Dr. Stewart is an assistant clinical professor of pharmacy practice; her scholarship has been published in Current Hypertension Reports and Learning Innovations in Pharmacy.

Measuring students' skill and confidence

11:30 a.m. Friday, Mar. 11 Lou Kramer

Dr. Lou Kramer assistant clinical professor and director of the pathologists' assistant program in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Science. She will be presenting her work with an educational development grant for improved bone saw assessments, which can better measure students’ skill and clinical preceptor confidence.
