Prof. Moh Malek invited back to lead another statistics workshop in Graduate School's professional development series

Moh Malek

Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Associate Professor of Physical Therapy Moh Malek has been invited back by the Wayne State University Graduate School to teach a three-session workshop, "Advanced Statistics and SPSS Workshop 2.0" related to regression analyses. In fall 2020, Malek taught a three-session workshop, in ANOVA analyses, as part of the Wayne State University Graduate School's fall professional development series which is free and geared toward graduate students and post-docs of all programs. Malek's workshops take place on Zoom from 3-5 p.m. on March 16, 23 and 30.

Todd Leff, Associate Dean of Student Career Development who moderated the ANOVA workshop said, “Dr. Malek’s statistics workshop held last fall represented the first time the Graduate School offered statistics training as part of our professional development activities. It was done in part to determine the appetite among our graduate students and postdocs for practical instruction on using statistical tools in research. The fall workshop was so highly attended and well-received by the participants that we are enthusiastically offering a second installment this term. That is why we wanted Dr. Malek back.”

The word ‘statistics' evokes stress and anxiety for many researchers. However, this workshop will provide guidance on how to perform and interpret statistical procedures used to identify relationships between variables (i.e., regression). Attendees will learn the SPSS statistical package using sample data sets. The workshop will be conducted online in three two-hour sessions on consecutive Tuesday afternoons. A copy of Malek's statistics textbook, Advanced Statistics for Kinesiology and Exercise Science: A Practical Guide to ANOVA and Regression Analyses, will be provided to workshop attendees.
