Funeral arrangements set for Radiologic Technology Program Director Sarah BorlandWe are heartbroken over the untimely passing of WSU Applebaum Radiologic Technology Program Director Sarah Borland on Friday, July 14. A friend to many in our college, Sarah dedicated her career to building the Wayne State RT program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Funeral arrangements are being handled by A.J. Desmond & Sons in Troy, Michigan.

GALLERY: Wayne State STEM Day 2023Wayne State University hosted nearly 2,500 students and teachers from 27 metro Detroit middle schools for a day of hands-on STEM activities across campus. WSU Applebaum participated with interactive sessions on medical laboratory science, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, radiation therapy technology and radiologic technology. Students had a blast concocting their own Warrior Lotion, helping a skeleton move, using surgical techniques to remove objects from Jell-O and more!

Savel triplets thrive in Detroit, Honors College and WSU ApplebaumThe Savel triplets — Cat, Sam and Kim — have different ambitions and career goals but share a common path toward their futures that runs through Wayne State University, the Irvin D. Reid Honors College and Detroit. Cat is a criminal justice major and French major with a minor in psychology, Sam is a mortuary science major with a minor in computer science, and Kim is studying radiologic technology.

GALLERY: Future Trends in Pathology Practice IPE eventOn March 23, 2023, the WSU Applebaum Pathologists' Assistant program welcomed Dr. Chester Lowe from Kubtec Medical Imaging to discuss and demonstrate X-ray imaging in pathology. Students and faculty from the Radiologic Technology and Radiation Therapy Technology programs joined the presentation in the Mortuary Science auditorium and anatomy lab for this collaborative IPE event, coordinated by Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science Program Director Karen Apolloni.

Dr. Sara F. Maher appointed as permanent associate dean for health sciencesDr. Maher had served as interim associate dean for health sciences since January 2022, assuming oversight of nine clinical programs, which include Clinical Laboratory Science, Mortuary Science, Pathologists’ Assistant, Nurse Anesthesia, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Radiation Therapy Technology and Radiologic Technology. During this time, she has also stepped up to lead the Office of Student Affairs on an interim basis.

Wayne State University joins URC partners in mandating vaccination for all students, faculty and staff coming to campus"As we have from the beginning of the pandemic, we are today revising our campus response to respond to emerging evidence and local data. To best protect the health and safety of our campus community, Wayne State will require all students, faculty and staff who plan to be on campus during the fall semester to receive their COVID-19 vaccination. Proof of your vaccination must be submitted by Aug. 30 for you to be allowed on campus," said WSU President M. Roy Wilson.

Masks are required inside WSU buildings now through Sept. 15 for everyone, regardless of vaccination status"Full vaccination of our campus community will eventually eliminate the need for masks and allow a renewed sense of normalcy in our interactions. Beginning today through Sept. 15, however, when we can be more confident in our overall vaccination status, masks will be required indoors for everyone, regardless of vaccination status," said WSU President M. Roy Wilson. "At that point, we will revisit the mask requirement, and hopefully eliminate it. Of course, masks will not be required if you are working alone in your office. We recognize that this is inconvenient, but it is temporary, and more important, safe."

Deadline Detroit: Top-of-their-class Mumford grads (and twins!) are ready for WSU ApplebaumAndre'a and Andria Garwood of Detroit's west side are identical twins born three minutes apart. The pair graduated as first and second in their class on June 15. In September, the twin achievers start at Wayne State to prepare for envisioned careers in physical therapy and radiology.
