GALLERY: Radiation Therapy Technology team building workshop 2023-24This summer, WSU Applebaum Radiation Therapy Technology students and faculty took a break from the clinic to get out of their day-to-day lives, break down barriers and learn the importance of being part of a team. “Team Building is a very important aspect of our profession,” said Assistant Clinical Professor Alisa Kagen. “It takes a team approach to assist patients in navigating through their cancer experience and treatment. In addition, a radiation therapist needs to be part of a team when treating patients efficiently. We need to be a good partner by working together for the benefit of the patients — even though it is not always easy working with various personality types under stressful situations with patients who are in pain and going through an extremely difficult time in their lives.”

Funeral arrangements set for Radiologic Technology Program Director Sarah BorlandWe are heartbroken over the untimely passing of WSU Applebaum Radiologic Technology Program Director Sarah Borland on Friday, July 14. A friend to many in our college, Sarah dedicated her career to building the Wayne State RT program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Funeral arrangements are being handled by A.J. Desmond & Sons in Troy, Michigan.

GALLERY: Wayne State STEM Day 2023Wayne State University hosted nearly 2,500 students and teachers from 27 metro Detroit middle schools for a day of hands-on STEM activities across campus. WSU Applebaum participated with interactive sessions on medical laboratory science, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, radiation therapy technology and radiologic technology. Students had a blast concocting their own Warrior Lotion, helping a skeleton move, using surgical techniques to remove objects from Jell-O and more!

GALLERY: Future Trends in Pathology Practice IPE eventOn March 23, 2023, the WSU Applebaum Pathologists' Assistant program welcomed Dr. Chester Lowe from Kubtec Medical Imaging to discuss and demonstrate X-ray imaging in pathology. Students and faculty from the Radiologic Technology and Radiation Therapy Technology programs joined the presentation in the Mortuary Science auditorium and anatomy lab for this collaborative IPE event, coordinated by Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science Program Director Karen Apolloni.

This is program is designed to promote research activities for junior and new faculty researchers. Maher appointed as permanent associate dean for health sciencesDr. Maher had served as interim associate dean for health sciences since January 2022, assuming oversight of nine clinical programs, which include Clinical Laboratory Science, Mortuary Science, Pathologists’ Assistant, Nurse Anesthesia, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Radiation Therapy Technology and Radiologic Technology. During this time, she has also stepped up to lead the Office of Student Affairs on an interim basis.

RTT program will Race for the Cure Oct. 2, and you can too!On Sunday, Oct. 2, the WSU Applebaum Radiation Therapy Technology program team will participate in the 2022 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Detroit. Organized by Program Director Jeannetta Greer, the team invites the college family to join them at the race or support their cause with a monetary donation. Both can be done through the RTT program's Race for the Cure webpage.
