WSU Applebaum Kappa Psi philanthropy efforts reach Ukraine, Turkey and Syria

Submitted by the WSU Mu Omicron Pi Chapter of Kappa Psi

One of the pillars of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity is High Ideals, with philanthropic service being a cornerstone of this tenet. Wayne State University’s Mu Omicron Pi chapter of Kappa Psi continues its history of servant leadership with several philanthropy projects helping communities locally and abroad.

The brothers of Kappa Psi led a warming drive on campus in partnership with FILAMCCO, PAFI and the Philippine American Cultural Center of Michigan, where WSU Applebaum students and faculty joined the community in donating winter coats, sweaters and jackets. The warming items were distributed to those in need, including newly arrived immigrant families via PACCM and Zaman International, unhoused men and woman at Pontiac’s HOPE Warming Shelter, and the children of Auntie Na's Village in Detroit. The final batch of donations was shipped to people in war-torn Ukraine.

Mu Omicron Pi raises funds for Turkey and Syria Earthquake relief fund

Last month, two powerful earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria borders, killing more than 40,000 people and injuring thousands more. This devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake was one of the strongest to hit the region in 100 years. Thousands of survivors of the natural disasters are still in need of help.

The brothers of Wayne State’s chapter of Kappa Psi are raising funds to support Global Giving’s Turkey-Syria Earthquake Relief Fund.

“We are calling on our WSU pharmily to come together to help the families affected by these devastating earthquakes and donate what they can,” says Kappa Psi Philanthropy Chair Obioma Opara. “We started a GoFundMe, where the contributions will be used to provide food, clean water and medicine to survivors. The funds will also help provide shelter and temporary housing to people who lost their homes as well as provide psycho-social and mental health support to survivors.”

Please consider donating to Global Giving’s Turkey-Syria Earthquake Relief Fund.
