PharmD students create video saluting 'Pharmacy Heroes' for MPA convention

Collage of video stillsDuring the past year, pharmacy professionals have been at the forefront of the battle against COVID-19. Now more than ever, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and student pharmacists are leading the efforts in vaccinating citizens against the coronavirus and keeping our communities safe and healthy.

When the Michigan Pharmacists Association wanted to highlight these important efforts at their Annual Convention and Exposition, MPA Executive Fellow and Applebaum alumnus Dr. Zack Mueller approached current Wayne State PharmD students Johnie L. Bailey and Joseph Paul Javier to help create a video presentation to salute our state’s pharmacy heroes.

This team collected video footage and photos from MPA member pharmacy professionals from all across Michigan to produce the presentation. Several Wayne State faculty and student leaders can be seen in the video.

Highlighted WSU Applebaum professors include Brittany Stewart, Joe Nardolillo and Mary Beth O'Connell. O’Connell was also recognized at the MPA convention as the recipient of the Fred W. Arnold Public Relations Award, sponsored by the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation, for her outstanding achievement and dedication to the pharmacy profession through community education and awareness.

Wayne State student pharmacist leaders highlighted in the video include Hussein Safaoui (SCCP Vice-President), Fadi Manuel (AMCP President), Jewel Konja (LKS President-Elect), Kelly Kepley (PLS Member), Joseph Paul Javier (SNPhA President-Elect), Françeska Spaillari (WHSO Event Chair), Vasil Rrushi (Class of 2023 Treasurer), Johnie L. Bailey (APhA State Association Liaison), Obioma Opara (Student Senator), Jackie Fleury (Class of 2024 President), as well as Jad Kawas and Evan Johnson of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity.
