Dr. Susan L. Davis appointed permanent associate dean for pharmacy

The Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is thrilled to announce the permanent appointment of Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice Susan L. Davis, PharmD, to the position of Associate Dean for Pharmacy, effective May 1, 2022.

DavisDr. Davis has served as Interim Associate Dean for Pharmacy since July 1, 2021, assuming responsibility for directing WSU Applebaum’s Doctor of Pharmacy program, as well as oversight of the departments of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She has been actively engaged in student recruitment strategy and establishing an ambulatory-community pharmacy at the Detroit Mack Health Center.

"Since her first day as interim associate dean for pharmacy, Dr. Susan Davis has brought ­her wealth of experience, clearheaded decision-making and creative leadership to the position, and I have no doubt that she will continue to serve our college with an extraordinary level of dedication and enthusiasm, now in a permanent capacity," said WSU Applebaum Dean Brian Cummings.

Dr. Davis earned her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan and completed a pharmacy practice residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital. She first came to Wayne State as an Infectious Diseases Outcomes Research Fellow in the college’s Anti-Infective Research Laboratory.

A leading researcher on antimicrobial stewardship, Dr. Davis has been a pharmacy practice faculty member in our college and an infectious diseases pharmacy specialist at Henry Ford Hospital since 2005. She also directs the infectious diseases pharmacotherapy and antimicrobial stewardship fellowship program between the two institutions. In her 16 years of practice at Henry Ford Health, Dr. Davis helped to establish and develop the antimicrobial stewardship program, offering innovative education and research opportunities for pharmacy students, residents, and fellows.

Frequently tapped by the media for her expertise (most recently by NPR), Dr. Davis has published more than 100 papers on infectious diseases and pharmacotherapy, her work has been cited more than 3,250 times, and she has been invited to lecture and present her research to leading clinicians and scientists on an international scale. She is an alumna of the Wayne State University Academic Leadership Academy, immediate past president of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP), and a board member of the nonprofit Making a Difference in Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Davis earned a 2021 Wayne State University Board of Governors Faculty Recognition Award, which honored her work as an invited member of the National Institutes of Health COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel. She has been recognized with multiple Preceptor of the Year awards, an SIDP Outstanding Clinical Practice Award, and a WSU Applebaum Research Excellence Award.
