The student pharmacists of Wayne State University’s chapter of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy continue to earn accolades. AMCP is the professional association leading the way to help patients get the medications they need at a cost they can afford. AMCP’s diverse membership of pharmacists, physicians, nurses, biopharmaceutical professionals and other stakeholders leverage their specialized expertise in clinical evidence and economics to optimize medication benefit design and population health management and help patients access cost-effective and safe medications and other drug therapies.

Jackie Fleury awarded AMCP Midwest Scholarship

Each year, the AMCP Midwest Affiliate grants two student pharmacists in the Midwest region to recognize their outstanding academic achievements and interest in Managed Care Pharmacy as well as to increase opportunities for involvement with the National Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. This year, WSU AMCP Chapter President Jackie Fleury was awarded AMCP Midwest’s scholarship and the opportunity to attend the AMCP National Conference, which happens this week in San Antonio, Texas.

“I feel honored to have been selected from the pool of applicants to receive the scholarship and attend this year’s AMCP conference in Texas. As a mother of three, without this generous gift of support, none of this would be possible,” said Fleury. “I am excited to represent Wayne State University’s Pharmacy Program and attend the AMCP National Convention in San Antonio this year. I look forward to this great experience to network and learn from leaders in managed care.”

AMCP 2023 is anticipated to attract more than 4,000 member and non-member managed care decision-makers to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. Robin Roberts, co-anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America, and Douglas Long, IQVIA vice president of industry relations, are this year’s keynote speakers. Attendees include individuals from health plans, PBMs, biopharmaceutical companies, consultants, and other leaders working within managed care pharmacy.

Johnie Bailey granted scholarship to Harvard Business School program

For the past three years, P3 student pharmacist Johnie Bailey has participated in the Up to Us Campus Competition. The national program develops student leaders and encourages them to address the economic future of the country in educational tracks ranging from public policy, health care, and entrepreneurship. Bailey, who is WSU AMCP’s president-elect, was among the Up to Us student leaders selected to receive a full-tuition scholarship for Harvard Business School online program and earned a graduate certificate in Global Business.

“As a pharmacy student in today’s constantly evolving profession, it is more vital than ever before to remain marketable. I am humbled and grateful to be a recipient this prestigious award and the opportunity to learn from Harvard Business School instructors,” said Bailey. “My goal is to further my education by learning more about how businesses thrive in industries across the world. In a 21st century reality, our economy is tied more to global markets than ever before. Understanding how businesses influence the pharmacy profession better equips pharmacists to provide the best health outcomes, efficiently and affordably.”
