On Tuesday, March 9, the Wayne State University chapter of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy will continue its seminar series focused on educating students about managed care and related career options for graduating PharmD students. Next week’s seminar will feature WSU Applebaum alumnus and current executive fellow at the Michigan Pharmacists Association, Dr. Zack Mueller '20.

“I’m looking forward to the AMCP discussion on Accountable Care Organizations. Future pharmacists can learn about different aspects of managed care. Health systems that are being reimbursed based on performance and/or savings benefit from pharmacists, for example,” said Dr. Mueller.

Tuesday's event is the second of three managed care seminars from AMCP.

“Our chapter is thrilled to continue our series with Dr. Mueller,” said AMCP President-Elect Joseph Paul Javier. “Accountable Care Organizations is an exciting topic to cover. From the groups of healthcare providers that come together to coordinate high-quality care for Medicare patients to deciding the right care at the right time to avoid unnecessary duplication of services and the prevention of medical errors, this seminar will have much information to talk about.”

“Other topics we will discuss include value-based care versus fee-for-service payment models, opportunities for pharmacists in ACOs, and provider accountability regarding the quality of care and the associated costs of that care,” Javier added. “Our AMCP chapter invites our fellow students to learn more about managed care pharmacy and how value-based care is focused on the outcomes of patients and not the amount of service provided.”
