Pre-Health Sciences Mentoring Program launched at WSU Applebaum

Student mentoring a youthA new Pre-Health Sciences Mentoring Program is available for Wayne State undergraduates who are considering applying to one of WSU Applebaum's bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree programs. These include:

Modeled on the Pre-Med Mentoring Program established by Academic Advisor II Amanda Horwitz in the University Advising Center’s Pre-Med and Health Science Center, as well as WSU Applebaum's Pre-Pharmacy Mentoring Program implemented by Academic Services Officer II Jozy Hayek, the new program aims to connect undergraduate and post-bachelor students with current health sciences students for guidance and support. The health sciences mentors will provide information and resources about the specific programs, the application process, time management, and other subjects. Mentors and mentees are expected to interact electronically or meet face to face twice per fall and winter semester.

Academic Services Officer III Heather Sandlin, who advises pre-health sciences students, is leading the effort. She is currently seeking student mentors, as well as prospective students who are already enrolled at Wayne State but have not yet applied to a WSU Applebaum program.

"The time commitment for the mentors is small, but the benefits can be great in building connections with our current WSU pre-health sciences students," Sandlin said.
