SPDC celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with CAPA Splendor of the East Cultural Showcase
May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and the Student Pharmacist Diversity Council (SPDC) is excited to celebrate generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and culture. As such, SPDC is proud to support the Council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) with their cultural show “Splendor of the East,” which will be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 22. The theme of this event is “Love Conquers All” and will be shown virtually from 7 to 8 p.m.
“The event will bring together the music, art and talent of Michigan’s Asian Pacific American community and rich cultural heritage and will be a spectacular homage to conquering the difficulties of this past year and a celebration of love shining through to bring hopes of a brighter future,” said Joseph Paul Javier, SPDC vice president and CAPA board member.
Emmy award winning meteorologist and WDIV-TV Local 4 reporter Andrew Humphrey will also be part of the virtual celebration. Of Asian and African American descent, Humphrey is the master of ceremonies for this year’s “Splendor of the East,” which is sponsored by DTE, Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Dragon Eagle Television.
"Part of SPDC's mission is to support understanding and appreciation of our diverse community. In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, our organization looks forward to the different performances that will be showcased in Splendor of the East,” said SPDC President-Elect Linh Pham. With performances from musicians and dancers representing nations from all across the Asia Pacific region, CAPA's virtual event is a great showcase that students and their families will enjoy!"
Javier added, “CAPA’s signature events like 'Splendor of the East' continue to demonstrate the growing strength of the Asian Pacific American communities. SPDC applauds their increasing contributions to Michigan’s diversity, vitality and economy. On behalf of the Student Pharmacist Diversity Council, we hope you will join us virtually on May 22 for CAPA’s wonderful showcase of AAPI music and dance.”
