Infectious Disease Special Edition: Dr. Susan Davis and former ARL Fellow Jacinda Abdul-Mutakabbir on correcting disparities in infectious disease care“It’s my hope that you are able to describe the relationship between systemic racism and social determinants of health when providing treatment to patients with infections, and also identify the factors in antimicrobial resistance, or stewardship processes and policies that could result into disparities in care,” said Dr. Abdul-Mutakabbir, an assistant professor of clinical pharmacy in the Division of the Black Diaspora and African American Studies, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, at the University of California, San Diego. Associate Dean for Pharmacy Susan Davis added: “We are just scratching the surface of how social, racial and other factors influence how antimicrobials and other medications are used.
