PharmD Student Experiential Education
Wayne State PharmD students have the opportunity to participate in patient care experiences in a variety of pharmacy settings across Metro Detroit.
Experiential Education accounts for over one-third of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum, including over 300 hours of introductory pharmacy practice experiences (IPPE) and 1660 hours dedicated to advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPE).
P1 and P2 year students participate in practice experiences during the following:
- Early Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience at Underserved Health Clinic
- Community Service in Patient, Health Education and Public Health Services
- P2, P4 Mentored Layer Learning Patient Care Experience
P3 year students participate in practice experiences during the following:
- Community and Hospital Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences
- P1, P3 Mentored Layer Learning Patient Care Experience
P4 year students participate in practice experiences during the following:
- Seven 6-week APPE rotations
- Community, Hospital, Ambulatory Care, Inpatient Acute Care, Patient Care and 2 elective rotations
- P2, P4 Mentored Layer Learning Patient Care Experience
The Wayne State PharmD Program is fortunate to have affiliations with local health systems, community, specialty and independent pharmacies, as well as with pharmacy organizations and businesses across southeastern Michigan that provide students with outstanding practice experiences.
We have more than 300 dedicated faculty, adjunct faculty and volunteers who contribute to the experiential education of our students.
