Campus Health Committee

Dear students, faculty and staff,

I am pleased to announce good news. The continued decline of cases throughout our community and the recent expiration of the federal government’s public health emergency declaration have allowed us to make some major updates to Wayne State’s COVID-19 policies. The following changes are effective immediately:

  • COVID-19 vaccines are no longer required for students, faculty or staff, except for students living in campus housing and those studying, working or teaching in clinical settings.
  • Use of the Campus Daily Screener is no longer required.
  • Mandatory testing for individuals with vaccine waivers is no longer required.

While vaccines are no longer required for most individuals, we strongly encourage all members of the campus community to follow the current CDC vaccine recommendations, which can be found here. Vaccines, COVID testing and COVID care will continue to be available at the Campus Health Center.

CHC services still available

The Campus Health Center will continue to provide COVID-19 vaccines and tests. The CHC will bill insurance companies and continue to work with uninsured students to ensure they receive appropriate care without financial burden. Remember, every student is entitled to one free CHC visit each semester.

If you experience symptoms of COVID-19, we strongly encourage you to be tested and to follow the CDC's guidelines for isolation.

Influenza

Wayne State’s influenza vaccine requirement will remain in effect. Students, faculty and staff will be required to submit proof of vaccination or declination for next year’s flu season, after Aug. 31 but before Nov. 15. Information on how to submit documentation will be provided before the end of August.

Campus housing and clinical programs

Students living in campus housing must show documentation that they have received COVID-19 vaccination. Documentation for the following routine childhood vaccinations is also required:

  • Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)
  • Meningococcal A (MenACWY)
  • Polio
  • Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap)
  • Chicken pox/varicella

Information on how to submit proof of vaccination will be provided in the next two weeks.

These updates do not supersede vaccine requirements for students and faculty in clinical programs. Contact your program director for information on your program’s vaccine requirements and how to upload documentation.

We can take this next step because of your commitment to the health and safety of your fellow Warriors over the last three years. Thank you for showing the world what it means to be Warrior Strong.

Sincerely,
