Veterans Day Q&A with Radiologic Technology student Brian Duszkiewicz
Q: Why did you choose Wayne State University?
A: Wayne State provided a lot of things I was looking for in a college when it comes to my program. The location allows me to work with underprivileged communities and see many aspects of radiology, since WSU works with Henry Ford Hospital, a level-one trauma center.
Q: Why did you choose your field?
A: Radiology was a field that kind of fell into my lap. I served in the United States Marine Corps from 2015-2019. I was an infantryman that deployed to Europe and Okinawa, Japan. While in the Marine Corps, I unfortunately ran into some injuries that lead to me needing a lot of imaging done. Coming in and out of exams and seeing the images really piqued my interest and also helped me understand my own medical issues. In this field, I hope to help others with their medical situations like those professionals did for me.
Q: What three words best describe you?
A: Outgoing, driven and motivated.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I spend free time with my girlfriend and my dog. We bought a condo in 2020 so we spend a lot of time working on our place.
Q: Share a recent accomplishment that made you proud of yourself.
A: Getting into this program! Not many of my fellow veterans utilize college. I'm proud of the fact I am able to progress my life with all the knowledge I will gain from going back to college and working on my degree.
Q: What are your career aspirations?
A: My goal is to work in Detroit at the VA Hospital downtown or at one of the main hospitals here in the city. I would like to help the city of Detroit as much as I can.

Radiologic technologists are health care professionals who administer prescribed radiation to help diagnose medical conditions. They perform procedures such as X-rays, CT scans and MRI exams. The Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Radiologic Technology program was Michigan's first accredited bachelor's degree program in the field, with an application deadline of Dec. 15.
