Two new members join WSU Applebaum Board of Visitors

Appointed in January 2021, Wayne State alumni Kathleen (Kathy) Pawlicki and Kevin Desmond are the newest members of the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Board of Visitors. The board's role is to strengthen the college's relationships with external constituencies, as well as help with fundraising and outreach activities.

Kathy Pawlicki

Kathy Pawlicki is a 1988 graduate of the master's in hospital pharmacy program. She recently retired as vice president and chief pharmacist at Beaumont Health, where she was responsible for the pharmaceutical services in eight hospitals and over 168 outpatient sites. Throughout her career, Pawlicki has advocated for improved medication management by advancing pharmacists and technician roles in a variety of hospital settings.

Pawlicki has been awarded numerous awards and recognitions for her work, including the Fellow of American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) distinction in 2001, Pharmacist of the Year from the Michigan Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (MSHP) in 2004, the MSHP Joseph A. Oddis Leadership Award in 2011, and the Distinguished Service Award from the ASHP Pharmacy Practice Managers Section in 2012. In 2018, she was named Michigan Pharmacist of the Year. She has also held numerous leadership positions in professional pharmacy organizations at the local, state and national levels, including vice chair of the Michigan Board of Pharmacy and immediate past president of the ASHP.

Kevin Desmond

Kevin Desmond is a 2009 graduate of the WSU Applebaum mortuary science program, where he was the class vice president. Desmond also holds a degree in marketing from the Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business. A Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) and third-generation funeral director, he is currently the president and general manager of A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Directors, with locations in Troy and Royal Oak. Desmond is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the Michigan Funeral Directors Association.

Desmond serves on the Angels' Place Board of Directors, Greenwood Cemetery (Birmingham) Advisory Board, and is active with the Notre Dame Club of Detroit. A member of Holy Name parish, he lives in Birmingham with his wife, Katrina Piligian Desmond, and their three children.
