WSU ties program mark with 10 Academic Excellence honorees.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving program had 15 GLIAC All-Academic recipients, which ranked third in the league.  In addition, the Warriors equaled the previous school record of 10 All-Academic Excellence honorees with the 2015-16 squad and the 2019-20 team.

Named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were graduate student Allison Lennig (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth), seniors Haley Groteler (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa), Jia Yi Koh (Subana Jaya, Malaysia) and Adrianna Waack (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams), juniors Ashleigh Allen (Clarkston, Mich.), Sydney Balk (Farmington, Mich.) and Julia Brunner (Traverse City, Mich. / St. Francis), sophomores Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) and Marina Tarlev (Athens, Greece), along with redshirt freshman Marissa Woida (Lincoln Park, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevelt).

Lennig (Occupational Therapy) received her third straight All-Academic Excellence recognition after transferring to WSU, while Koh (Nutrition and Food Science) and Waack (Finance Honors) were on the All-Academic Excellence squad for the third consecutive season.  Groteler (Nursing) earned her third consecutive All-Academic honor and second straight year being on the All-Academic Excellence Team.  Allen (Marketing), Balk (Kinesiology) and Brunner (Romance Languages) garnered their second consecutive All-Academic Excellence Team recognition.  Fox (Accounting), Tarlev (Mechanical Engineering) and Woida (Nursing) are recipients in their first season eligible.

Wayne State had five representatives on the All-Academic Team for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49.  This group consisted of seniors Leticia Camilo Lemos (São Paulo, Brazil), Amanda Hurchalla (Mount Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) and Sophie Montesanti (Howell, Mich.), along with sophomores Maddy Chorley (Burton, Mich. / Davison) and Abby Warner (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower).

Hurchalla (Management) and Montesanti (Biological Sciences) were on a GLIAC All-Academic Team for the third straight year, while Camilo Lemos (Psychology) was recognized for the first time.  Chorley and Warner are recipients in their first season eligible.

Wayne State shattered the previous mark of 206 Academic All-GLIAC honorees set in 2019-20 with 253 for the 2020-21 academic year. WSU has produced 1,694 Academic All-GLIAC recipients over the last decade.
