Karen Tarnas joins Office of the Dean as executive assistant
The start of a new year brings a new team member to the Dean’s Suite. Please welcome Karen Tarnas, who stepped into the role of executive assistant on Monday, Jan. 3.
Tarnas comes to the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences from Henry Ford Hospital, where she was executive assistant to the chair of the Department of Urology. Before that, she served in the Michigan Department of State as scheduler for Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
Prior to Benson’s election, Tarnas worked with her for two years at RISE – Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality, and before that at the Wayne State University Law School, where Tarnas was assistant to the dean during Benson’s incumbency. Tarnas served a total of three deans during her tenure at Wayne Law.
Tarnas started her WSU career in 1999 as a development officer for Alumni Affairs, giving her an extensive base of knowledge about the university and its organizational procedures.
“We are thrilled to have Karen join us,” said Dean Brian Cummings. “Her wealth of Wayne State experience combined with the skills she brings from positions beyond the university will be valuable as we work together toward success for students, faculty, staff and the entire WSU Applebaum community.”
