E. David Ladd, age 78, funeral director and former instructor and director of the Wayne State University Mortuary Science Program, died May 6, 2021, at his home.

David graduated from the Wayne State University Mortuary Science Program in 1998 and then went on to become an instructor and the director of the program, retiring in 2013. David also earned a zoology degree from Walla Walla University and a law degree from Williamette University.

David's greatest satisfaction came from interactions with students where he could educate, mentor and shape directions. The lawyer in him was always challenging others usually in an attempt to strengthen their argument and sometimes to further his opinion.

David was a private pilot, an accomplished downhill skier, and enjoyed raising and caring for mustangs that he and his late wife Carolyn adopted from the Bureau of Land Management. David was also an avid stamp collector, model railroader, and enjoyed connecting with people in different countries via ham radio.

David is survived by his children Kelley (Randy) Kelch and Kim (Ross) Snider, and grandchildren Erin Kelch, Rhys Kelch, Andrew Snider, Christopher Snider, Ashleigh Snider and Emily Snider. David was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carolyn in 2020.
