Division of Research - Wayne State University

Dear Colleagues –

With the retirement of Denise Figlewicz, Ph.D. earlier this month, I have asked Timothy Stemmler, Ph.D. to serve as the interim assistant vice president for Research Enhancement and Development during the ongoing recruitment process for a new leader in this area.

The team in this office area manages our extensive internal funding programs for research development and provides support for larger programmatic grant initiatives and training grant submissions. Dr. Stemmler has interacted closely with the team in this area over the last few years and brings a broad perspective to this key enabling unit.

Dr. Stemmler currently serves as the assistant vice president for Integrative Biosciences and is a professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Stemmler is a biophysical chemist with a strong record as a creative scientist. He has served the university in a number of capacities including faculty appointments in the School of Medicine and in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, as well as the inaugural associate dean for Postdoctoral Studies, the associate dean of the Graduate School and the associate dean for Research in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

I extend my appreciation to Dr. Stemmler for his engagement and service and for his continued contributions to our university mission.

Sincerely,

Steve

Stephen M. Lanier, Ph.D., Vice President for Research
