Today@Wayne: PharmD graduate Klea Noskey '23 achieves her dreamIt’s been nearly a decade since Klea Noskey arrived in the US from her tiny, picturesque village in Albania, determined to earn an education. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but after earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree this week, Noskey will start her residency at Beaumont Hospital-Troy. She said, "I would like to be a clinical pharmacist, and that’s why I decided to pursue residency because it gives me a lot more clinical knowledge and gets me more familiar with the system and will allow me to collaborate with the doctors and nurses and PAs and be part of the team.”

Students and faculty from the Radiologic Technology and Radiation Therapy Technology programs joined the presentation in the Mortuary Science auditorium and anatomy lab for this collaborative IPE event, coordinated by Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science Program Director Karen Apolloni.

Dr. Aline Saad collaborates with SOM on IPE Musical Symposium to teach pharmacy and med students the nuances of nonverbal communication"I noticed that eye contact, gestures, facial expressions, body movements, rhythms, harmony, sounds and spatial organization were part of the nonverbal communication forms the musicians used while performing," said P3 Halah Billy, who participated in the event featuring the acclaimed Viano Quartet. "I learned that nonverbal communication can be used by pharmacists to establish rapport, which is the first step of counseling patients in a pharmacy setting."

WSU Applebaum partners with School of Medicine for Interprofessional Prescription Writing WorkshopThe event engaged medical students in various activities, allowing them to practice prescription writing both electronically and on prescription pads. Participating student pharmacists sharpened their educator skills by helping facilitate the workshop and instructing on the elements required for a prescription to be safely dispensed to patients.

Students learn how to assess an older adult’s health and social needs and to participate in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Social work students critical to CHIP's support of homeless DetroitersSocial workers are vital front line workers of the interprofessional healthcare ecosystem of Detroit, partnering with allied health professionals to address the social determinants of health and improve patient outcomes in our urban community. Since 2014, the Wayne State School of Social Work has partnered with pharmacy, medicine and physical therapy to provide a valuable urban interprofessional training experience as a participant in the Community Homeless Interprofessional Program (CHIP) clinic.
