Take the WSU Applebaum DEI Climate Survey by Friday, Feb. 10

The Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) Committee, along with Dean Brian Cummings, has recognized the need to understand the current state of DEAI within the college in order to further delineate its strengths and weaknesses, necessary focus areas, and how to best incorporate DEAI into all program curricula.

To that end, WSU Applebaum has engaged the Barthwell Group to conduct its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Climate Survey.

"It is critical to our college's mission and vision to understand our current environment from individual students, faculty and staff, and I encourage everyone to complete the DEI Climate Survey as soon as possible. We will use the information gathered to focus our efforts on strategic planning in this area," Cummings said.

Responses to the DEI Climate Study are confidential, and they will not be attributable to the respondent. The assessment takes 10-20 minutes and must be completed in one sitting. The survey will close on Friday, Feb. 10.

"We are eager to hear from all students, faculty and staff about their perceptions and experiences with diversity, equity and inclusion in our college environment," said Assistant Clinical Professor of Physician Assistant Studies Corinne Gratson, DEAI Committee co-chair.

In preparation for the survey, each member of the DEAI Committee met individually with the Barthwell Group last fall.

"During the hour-long sessions, we were asked a variety of questions in regard to our current understanding and perceptions of DEAI and where it stands within the college at the faculty, staff, and student levels," Gratson said.

At WSU Applebaum's All College Meeting in December 2022, the DEAI Committee made a motion for the Bylaws Committee to review its membership policy to expand participation within the committee, particularly at the staff and student levels. The goal is to add committee volunteers to help diversify representation and to make sure more voices are heard.

If you have any questions about the survey, please feel free to reach out to the Barthwell Group at vescobar@barthwellgroup.com or 313-866-9000.
