Run the DEW What You SAY 5K to support community clinics

The Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences strives to give back to the Detroit community, and two student-run clinics -- the SAY Detroit Physical Therapy Clinic and the interprofessional Diabetes Education and Wellness (DEW) Clinic -- are a critical part of that mission. On Saturday, Oct. 27, the DEW What You SAY Halloween 5K Run will raise funds to help these clinics promote the health of the underserved and uninsured population in Detroit year-round.

The chip-timed event is on Wayne State's campus in Midtown, starting off from Gullen Mall in front of the Student Center. Runners and walkers can register for:

• $30 for 5K run until Oct. 11, then $35
• $20 for 1-mile walk

The registration fee includes a t-shirt and goodie bag. Halloween costumes are encouraged, and contest with trophy is part of the day's fun. There will also be a raffle for baskets and donated items.

Sponsorships are available, and basket donations are also welcome. To become a sponsor, donate a basket, or volunteer to help at the event, please contact Tara Anderson at dew.say.5k@gmail.com.

Originally proposed by a team of occupational therapy students, the DEW Clinic has grown to include students in pharmacy, physical therapy, dietetics, social work and medicine. The SAY Detroit Physical Therapy Clinic is run by student physical therapists from Wayne State working with local volunteer licensed physical therapists to provide services to uninsured and underinsured Detroiters without charge in a compassionate and educational environment.
