PT professor Joseph Roche brings health science to Bloomfield Township seniors

Wayne State Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy Joseph A. Roche, BPT, PhD, was the invited speaker at a health literacy promotion event at Bloomfield Township Senior Center on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020. He intrigued the audience with scientific facts about muscle cell preservation, changes to strength and mass due to aging, and helped participants realize the importance of an active lifestyle and exercise.

Jean Campbell, recreation coordinator for Bloomfield Township Senior Services, said, “Dr. Roche is an outstanding educator and individual. His presence was impactful in a positive, powerful way. I wish all educators had his talent to engage and inform with expansive knowledge and wit.”

About 30 patrons attended the Feb. 13 event. Roche gave a similar presentation last year, and he is scheduled to present again in May 2020. He was nominated to serve in the capacity of community health educator by Wayne State Assistant Vice President for Research Denise Figlewicz.
