SENIOR SPOTLIGHT - Jackie Feist

In this edition of our Senior Spotlight series, we acknowledge Jackie Feist, who was a four-year member of the women's cross country and track & field teams after beginning her collegiate career at Iowa State.

"Jackie has been an extraordinary student-athlete for us," remarked head coach Grant Lofdahl.  "Her natural running ability, mental toughness, and ability to adapt resulted in some outstanding performances on the track and cross country course.  She's also been an exceptional student, both as an undergrad and now in Pharmacy school.  Her last kilometer as a Warrior cross country runner (at DII Nationals last fall) was the stuff of legend, as she passed at least 27 runners to place 50th overall.  She's given a lot to our program, and will be greatly missed!"

After graduating from Birmingham Groves High School in 2014, Feist was a member of the Iowa State University cross country and outdoor track teams as a freshman, but did not compete.  The following year (2015-16), she earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors, while participating in both indoor track and outdoor track.  Feist competed in the 800-meter run at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.

In her inaugural year as a Warrior, Feist earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors and was selected to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team.  In the fall of 2016, she ompeted in all seven meets and was one of Wayne State's top runners by posting three top-seven finishes, including two top-five performances.

In both 2017-18 and 2018-19, Feist was the Deans' Award winner from the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for having the highest cumulative grade-point average of all student-athletes in that college.  She was the cross country squad's Athlete of the Year in 2017.  During the 2018 cross country season, Feist was an All-Region honoree as well as Second Team All-GLIAC.

At the 2019 GLIAC Indoor Championships, she finished third in the mile at with a provisional time of 4:58.71.  A few months later, Feist finished fourth in the 800m race at the GLIAC Championships (2:12.23) and was also a member of the third-place 4x400m relay (3:54.33) at GLIACs.  She missed qualifying for the national championships by 0.75 (2:10.91) for 800m after posting a school record time of 2:11.66 at a Last Chance race.

This past year (2019-20), Feist was again an All-Region honoree in cross country along with Second Team All-GLIAC.  She finished in 50th place, earning a 6K personal-best time of 21:08.8, at the NCAA Championships.  In her final race as a Warrior, Feist ran the leadoff leg of the fourth-place DMR (12:09.74) at the GLIAC Indoor Championships.

A three-time recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, Feist is currently working on her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree.  She was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) six times and the Coach's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.0-3.49) twice.  She was also a nine-time member of the GLIAC All-Academic Team (three times in each sport).  In addition, Feist served on the WSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
