Marusak was nominated by Cindy Cohen, the program director at Kids Kicking Cancer, as a leader in the workplace, in the field and in the community.

Marusak has established a strong collaboration with Kids Kicking Cancer and, for the past several years, has been working with the organization to investigate whether meditation and martial arts therapy can reduce pain and anxiety, as well as reduce activity in underlying brain regions in children with cancer.

"This honor is truly well-deserved and to be nominated by this organization speaks volumes to the impact that Hilary has had on the metro Detroit community," said Assistant Professor Christine Rabinak, who directs the TNP2 lab.

Marusak's is lecturing about her research on Wednesday, May 29, at 11 a.m. in IBio on Wayne State's campus.
