EACPHS to host Oct. 23 panel on marijuana legalization in Michigan

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will host a forum and panel discussion on the proposed legalization of marijuana in Michigan. The Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act is on the Nov. 6 ballot. The event takes place in the EACPHS auditorium from 2-4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

  • Kevin Sabet, president of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (opposed)
  • Barton Morris, Cannabis Legal Group (supporting)
  • Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Randy Commissaris, who is researching the impact of marijuana on driving ability
  • Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice Christine Rabinak, who recently spoke at a Congressional briefing on the use of cannabis products to treat PTSD in veterans
  • Attendees will learn:

  • a brief history of marijuana and cannabis use
  • some of the pharmacology/toxicology of marijuana
  • an overview of the current state-wide ballot initiative proposing to legalize and tax recreational marijuana use
  • some of the issues relating to marijuana use and stoned driving
  • arguments supporting the legalization proposal
  • arguments opposed to the legalization proposal
