Biosafety Training

Biosafety Training This training is required annually for all employees who work with materials that are handled at Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2), including work with human blood, body fluids, tissue, cell lines, animals infected with human pathogens, mammalian viruses, etc. Employees who have taken this class at least once at WSU may take the annual refresher on-line. Topics covered include: Explanation of Biosafety Principles and Levels from CDC/NIH Contents of the WSU Biosafety Manual & Exposure Control Plan Explanation of bloodborne infectious diseases Procedures to follow in an exposure incident Safe work practices Personal protective equipment Use of biological safety cabinets and other safety equipment Biohazard waste disposal rules, and much more. Introduction to WSU's Controlled Substances Program

This is an information session on the new controlled substance program at the university. Researchers using controlled substances in non-clinical settings will learn about the program, including; licensing, purchasing, storage, auditing, recordkeeping, and disposal rules. This does NOT APPLY to controlled substances used at WSU in human clinical trials/treatment.
Basic Radiation Safety Training

Office of Environmental Health & Safety
  This training is required for all faculty, staff, and students using radioactive materials in the laboratory. The lecture is held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The following Monday all students must take and pass a written Radiological Health Exam. Discuss with your PI the radioactive materials with which you will be working before coming to the training. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month in the lower level of the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Auditorium at 6 p.m.  Parking is available in Parking Structure 7 for $6.00 directly west of the building. Please enter at the Brady Street (North) entrance as the Mack Avenue (South) entrance is always locked.  The meeting begins promptly at 6:00pm and has a structured format. It is important to be on time so as not to miss important information. Also, the Building locks all the outside doors at 6:30pm and you will not be able to enter the building after that time.

The Eugene Applebuam College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences offers guaranteed admission programs offered to a limited number of incoming freshman students who meet high academic qualifications and have an expressed interest in pharmacy and other health science programs. These admission programs are available through both Wayne State University and Oakland University. Please see the following for more information:

“Apple Days” – This program exposes Detroit Public School middle and high school students to diverse health science careers twice per year. It provides a unique opportunity to educate beyond the traditional classroom. The fun, fast-paced educational event is designed to offer interactive exercises, led by EACPHS students and faculty, in various pharmacy and health science programs.
“Apple Days” was inaugurated in 2008 and exposes almost 200 students per year with interests in science to careers in Anatomic Pathology, Nurse Anesthesia, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Radiologic Technology.
