Pharmacy Students Immunize Against Flu
During this year's seasonal flu clinics, the Wayne State University Chapter of the American Pharmaceutical Association’s Academy of Students of Pharmacy (APhA-ASP) immunized 1,428 patients and performed 321 glucose and 353 blood pressures screenings. As a result of the blood pressure and glucose screenings, 117 patients were referred to follow up with a physician. The clinics were held Oct. 12 through Oct. 22 at various locations on the WSU campus. This is the second consecutive year, Human Resources collaborated with the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS), the University Pharmacy, and the APhA-ASP students to immunize faculty, staff and employee family members against seasonal influenza. Earlier this year, the APHA-ASP received the 2009 Campus Life Leadership Award as the Outstanding Student Organization and in November 2008 the Innovation Award from the Southeastern Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists for their flu immunizations and health screenings. Among those taking advantage of the clinic on Oct 7 at our College were Dean Lloyd Y. Young, Interim Deputy Dean Howard J. Normile, and Associate Dean for Research Michael Rybak.
