PAD Seminar - Communicating Your Research and Scholarship to a Broad Audience

The offices of the Vice President for Research, Provost, and Faculty Affairs (School of Medicine) are pleased to offer the Professional and Academic Development seminar series for WSU faculty, chairs & directors, postdoctoral trainees & graduate students, and administrators. Seminars are free, but registration is required. The seminar, Communicating Your Research and Scholarship to a Broad Audience, will take place Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Welcome Center Auditorium. The moderator will be David Rosenberg, chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences. Panelists will include Sean Lee, health reporter at WWJ Newsradio 950; John Corvino, chair of the Department of Philosophy; Julie O'Connor, director of research communications in the Office of the Vice President for Research; and Rasheda Kamaria Williams, information officer in Marketing & Communications. The panel will discuss: How WSU can help in communicating your latest accomplishment What types of stories interest reporters How to prepare for a media interview, beyond just knowing the facts How to translate your research to the general public Characteristics of a good media interview What to avoid doing in a media interview How to use Social Media to tell your story How to get an Op/Ed placement   We hope to see you there!
