Biosafety Training

Biosafety Training is required for all employees who work with materials that are handled at Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2), including work with human blood, body fluids, tissue, cell lines, animals infected with human pathogens, mammalian viruses, etc. This training is required annually. Employees who have taken this class at least once at WSU may take the annual refresher online. The training session for those taking this course for the first time or who prefer to retrain in the classroom setting, may attend the next session on Wednesday, August 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in 3125 Scott Hall. Doug Crim, attorney, Miller Canfield, lectures on "OSHA Compliance." The theme of “EHS and the Law” addresses the relationship between environmental, health, and safety activities and other aspects of the law, including ethics, expert witnesses, OSHA compliance, toxic tort and more. The series is sponsored by the Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences program, WSU Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Detroit High School Students to Get Hands-on Experience in WSU Pharmacy and Health Sciences Programs

 

 Information regarding Apple Days Experience

 

Who:         Approximately 75 Detroit Public School 10th and 11th Grade students and their chaperones from Cass Technical; Crockett Technical Center;  Finney; Frederick Douglass; Southeastern Technical High Schools.

What:        Apple Days, a fun, fast-paced educational experience into health sciences careers with a half day of hands-on activities.

When:       8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on November 20, 2008 (Thursday).

Where:      Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS), Wayne State University, 259 Mack Ave at John R, Detroit.  Entrance to building on Brady Street, which runs between the College and the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and EACPHS.

How:         Invited students will be introduced to careers in Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Anatomic Pathology, and Nurse Anesthesia.  Groups of 15 -20 students will rotate every 30-45 minutes through five, concurrent interactive programs.  They will observe demonstrations of surgical instruments, such as the Striker saw used in autopsies; measure their grip strength with a Hand Dynamometer;  try assistive devices, such as one-hand button aid; and enter the Human Patient Simulator Complex where Nurse Anesthetists practice on life-size, programmed simulator mannequins.

            This is the second time the EACPHS Apple Days Program is being held to introduce, inspire and nurture young students to consider health sciences careers through the curriculum available at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Wayne State University.
